With Mental Health Awareness Month upon us, let's take the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our patients.Mental health is a vital component of overall health, and it's essential that we provide accessible and quality mental healthcare to everyone in need. Let's work together to break the stigma of seeking help for mental health conditions and offer compassionate care to those who seek it.Throughout May, let's share resources, start conversations and educate our communities on the importance of mental health. Wyoming, like much of the Mountain West, is grappling with a severe mental health crisis. Stigma in isolated rural communities often prevents individuals from seeking help, leading to devastating consequences such as addiction, suicide, and PTSD. Our original series, A STATE OF MIND, aims to break the silence surrounding mental health by weaving patient journeys together with expert interviews to shed light on this critical issue—and our work has received high praise. A STATE OF MIND was recognized with three Regional Emmy® Awards and a nationwide Public Media Award in 2023.The next episode of the series, 'The Caregivers,' will premiere on May 17 on Wyoming PBS. This episode will focus on the growing caregiver population, particularly those caring for loved ones with dementia. The immense responsibility of caregiving can lead to depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation, and 'The Caregivers' will explore how we can ensure that the mental health of caregivers is not overlooked. At WY PBS, we are dedicated to telling Wyoming's stories and addressing the issues that matter most to our communities. We are grateful to our incredible supporters, director/producer Mat Hames, and the exceptional team at Alpheus Media for their contributions to this series. Together, we are taking part in some of the most consequential conversations in our state and working towards a healthier future for all.We invite you to view A STATE OF MIND and add your voice to this important discussion.https://lnkd.in/g8WqyyY7#mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #pbs #publicmedia #wyoming #mountainwest #documentary #documentarseries

As May comes to a close, we're wrapping up our observance of Mental Health Awareness Month! MHFA has now trained more than 3 million First Aiders across the country to identify, understand and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges. Individually, a person can accomplish quite a bit. But when connected with a network – say, 3 million others – major change is possible. We want everyone in America to have at least one First Aider in their close circle of friends, family and peers. Every 1 in 15 people should be certified to identify, understand and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges. Together, we will reach millions more.#BeThe1in15 by sharing our newsletter with a family member, friend or peer.
