This recipe is based on our highly popular Shrimp Salad Recipe. To make the sliders, just cook shrimp with lemon and chop it up while you preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Then, mix chopped celery, red onion, and shrimp in a medium bowl. In a large bowl, mix lemon juice, minced garlic, softened cream cheese, mozzarella cheese, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and fresh dill (dried dill is fine too). Add the shrimp mixture and toss gently. Don’t forget to add salt and black pepper.

After, slice Hawaiian rolls in half and put the bottoms in a baking dish. Mix melted butter with garlic powder and red pepper flakes and brush the insides of the rolls before adding the shrimp mixture. Brush the other half of the buns with the rest of the butter mixture and bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Once they cool, slice and serve with your favorite side dishes.

Recipe variations:

  • Other veggies: Feel free to add your favorite veggies like chopped green onion, broccoli florets, sliced carrots, or whatever you like.
  • Make a wrap: Instead of a shrimp roll, use lettuce or a tortilla to make a shrimp wrap.
  • Add sauce: For an extra savory flavor to these shrimp salad sliders, add some teriyaki or soy sauce to your shrimp salad. You can also give your sandwich extra flavor with a dash of Worcestershire sauce.
  • Miracle Whip: If you like your shrimp salad slightly sweet, use Miracle Whip instead of mayonnaise.
  • Spicy taste: Combine mayo with sriracha sauce for a delicious spicy sriracha mayo taste.
  • No shrimp: If you do not like shrimp salads, you could use half the shrimp for one batch. The rest can be tuna or whatever you like.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use pre-cooked shrimp?

Yes, but buying pre-cooked shrimp from the store can be pricey. It can also be risky if you are not sure about the cook dates. The frozen shrimp in a bag you can buy in the freezer aisle at your grocery store is a good idea since it is already peeled, cleaned, and cooked. All you have to do is thaw it out and chop it.

How do I cook shrimp?

First, soak your shrimp in a brine of salt and water for about 30 minutes. Next, after boiling water, add the shrimp and more salt and let it cook for one minute. Then, put the shrimp in an ice bath to stop it from cooking. You could also run it under cold water.

Who invented shrimp salad?

Nobody knows who made the first shrimp salad, but some say it was a dish served in Seattle in 1904. Another version is the Shrimp Louie, made with eggs, lettuce, and tomatoes. The dressing is like Thousand Island with chili sauce. It was first made in San Francisco in 1900.
